Coconut Grove is Miami's oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood, a leafy bayfront village of banyan trees, marinas, parks and sidewalk cafés. It feels calmer than South Beach or Brickell and makes an easy day trip for families and anyone who wants green space by the water.
What to see
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, an Italian Renaissance-style villa with formal gardens on Biscayne Bay, sits on the Grove's northern edge. The Barnacle Historic State Park preserves one of the oldest houses in Miami-Dade in a quiet hardwood hammock. Peacock Park and the bayfront walk are good for picnics and sunsets, and CocoWalk is the neighborhood's open-air shopping and dining center.

When to go
The dry season from November to April is the most pleasant for walking and outdoor dining. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival, held each February, is one of the largest outdoor art festivals in the US.
Getting there
Coconut Grove has its own Metrorail station, so it is easy to reach from Downtown and Brickell. From Miami Beach it is about 25 to 35 minutes by car. The village center is compact and walkable, with bike lanes along the bay.
