A short, cheap and well-told audio walk through South Beach. It starts at the Miami Beach sign and follows the beach to Ocean Drive, passing the Colony Hotel, the Art Deco Museum, the 13th Street lifeguard tower and the gates of the Versace Mansion. It ends inland on Española Way and Washington Avenue, near Mac's Club Deuce, the city's oldest bar.
Along the way you hear how Julia Tuttle persuaded Henry Flagler to bring the railroad south, which is how Miami Beach got started.
Good to know
You need your own phone and headphones. The tour works offline and stays on your phone for good. It's an easy pick for a morning walk before the heat, and a nice alternative if a guided Art Deco tour doesn't fit your schedule.
