Wynwood is a former warehouse district just north of Downtown Miami that is now one of the best-known street-art neighborhoods in the world, with murals on almost every wall plus galleries, breweries, shops and restaurants. It is worth visiting for anyone with even a passing interest in art or photography, and you can see the core in two to four hours.

It suits art lovers, photographers, foodies and groups looking for a night out. Families with older kids enjoy the murals in daylight. If you want a beach or a quiet stroll in the shade, combine Wynwood with somewhere else, since its streets are wide, hot and mostly treeless.

How do you get to Wynwood and where do you park?

Wynwood is about 15 to 25 minutes by car or rideshare from South Beach across the causeways, and about 10 minutes from Downtown. Without a car, take the free City of Miami Wynwood trolley, which runs Monday to Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and connects with the Metromover at the Adrienne Arsht Center station. If you drive, the Wynwood Garage at 311 NW 26th Street is open around the clock and can be reserved through ParkMobile; Wynwood Walls lists stays there at roughly $20 to $40 depending on length, with higher rates on event days. Metered street spaces are paid through PayByPhone or ParkMobile. On weekends and during the monthly Art Walk, arrive before noon or head straight to a garage.

What are the best things to do in Wynwood?

The best things to do in Wynwood are touring the Wynwood Walls, hunting for free murals on the surrounding blocks, visiting galleries during the Second Saturday Art Walk, joining a guided street-art tour, and ending the day at a brewery or restaurant. Morning is best for photos; evening is best for food and drinks.

Wynwood Walls

Wynwood Walls, at 2516 NW 2nd Avenue, is a ticketed outdoor museum of large murals by artists from around the world, plus an indoor gallery space. It is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with doors closing 30 minutes before. Tickets cost $12 for adults (18+), $10 for seniors 65 and over, $5 for ages 13 to 17, and are free for children 12 and under. It occasionally closes early for private events, so check the day before.

Free murals and galleries

Some of the best work is free to see on the blocks around NW 2nd Avenue between about NW 20th and 29th Streets, and along the side streets toward NW 5th Avenue. Murals are painted over regularly, which is part of the appeal for repeat visitors. Never touch the paint, and ask before photographing people.

Second Saturday Art Walk

On the second Saturday of every month, galleries, museums and studios open late for the free Wynwood Art Walk, roughly noon to 11 p.m., with food trucks and music. The next dates are November 14 and December 12, 2026. Crowds and traffic build after dark, so plan on a rideshare.

Tours and nearby museums

For a short list of places verified open in 2026, try Zak the Baker for breakfast and bread, Coyo Taco for casual tacos, Pastis Miami for a French bistro meal, and 1-800-Lucky for an Asian food hall with a bar. Wynwood also has several craft breweries within a few blocks of each other.

• Zak the Baker is a Wynwood bakery and café known for sourdough loaves, pastries and simple breakfast plates.
• Coyo Taco is the Wynwood-born taqueria for fast, inexpensive tacos and margaritas.
• Pastis Miami (380 NW 26th Street) is a large brasserie with a patio, good for brunch or a long dinner; reserve on weekends.
• 1-800-Lucky is a food hall with several Asian stalls, a central bar and karaoke, useful for groups who cannot agree on dinner.

Is Wynwood safe, and what should you bring?

Wynwood is generally safe in the daytime and on the busy central blocks in the evening, when the streets are full of visitors. As in any urban district, stay aware after dark, stick to lit streets with open businesses, avoid empty lots and alleys, and keep bags closed in crowds. Car break-ins happen, so never leave valuables visible in a parked car.

• Bring water, sunscreen and a hat; there is little shade between murals.
• Public restrooms are scarce, so plan breaks around a café or meal stop.
• Most businesses take cards, but a few dollars in cash helps with street vendors.
• Drones generally need permission; check before flying.

When is the best time to visit Wynwood?

Visit on a weekday morning for empty streets and soft light, or on the second Saturday of the month for open galleries and a party atmosphere. November through April is the most comfortable season for walking.
