At a glance

  • Best free party: the Bayfront Park countdown with the Big Orange and bay fireworks
  • Beach option: midnight fireworks off Lummus Park in South Beach (in recent years)
  • Cost: free general admission; clubs, VIP tiers and boats sell out by December
  • Heads-up: 2026-27 details were not announced as of October 2026

New Year's Eve in Miami centers on two free celebrations: the countdown at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami, where the Big Orange rises up the side of the InterContinental at midnight, and the fireworks over the beach at Lummus Park in South Beach. December 31, 2026 falls on a Thursday, so expect the party to stretch across a long weekend.

Line-ups and details for the 2026-27 edition had not been announced when we checked in October 2026. Below is how the night usually works, based on recent years, plus what to book now.

What happens at Bayfront Park on New Year's Eve?

Bayfront Park hosts Miami's biggest free New Year's Eve party, with live music from late afternoon, a midnight countdown and fireworks over Biscayne Bay. For the night ending 2025, doors opened at 5pm, general admission was a free RSVP, and paid VIP tiers added an open bar and stage-front viewing.

The other tradition is the Big Orange: a roughly 35-foot neon orange that climbs about 400 feet up the InterContinental Miami as the clock hits midnight. You can see it from the park and from much of the Biscayne Boulevard waterfront.

  • Arrive early: the free area fills well before the countdown.
  • Watch the event's own site and social channels for the 2026 RSVP opening and line-up.
  • Expect bag checks and a list of banned items; travel light.

New Year's Eve in Miami Beach

Miami Beach usually puts on free fireworks launched from the Lummus Park beachfront at midnight, best viewed from the sand or Ocean Drive between about 5th and 15th Streets. For the 2025-26 season the city also held a free Orchestra Miami concert at the Collins Park beachfront with its own midnight fireworks, and a New Year's Day concert at Lummus Park.

The city had not announced its 2026-27 program as of October 2026, so check its holiday events page in December. In recent years Ocean Drive has been closed to cars over the holidays, and a free tram ran along it in the daytime.

Boat parties and fireworks from the water

Watching the fireworks from Biscayne Bay is the most memorable option, and the priciest. Shared party cruises sell tickets per person, while private yachts are booked by the boat and often carry holiday minimums. Both sell out weeks ahead.

Compare departures and inclusions on our Miami boat tours page. Check whether the price includes drinks, how long you stay on the water after midnight, and where the boat docks, since getting home from a downtown marina at 1am is part of the plan.

Clubs and ticketed parties

Most of Miami's big nightclubs and hotel rooftops run ticketed New Year's Eve parties, with prices well above a normal weekend and table packages that climb steeply. Tickets usually go on sale in November and the best-value tiers sell first.

  • Read what is included: open bar, food, a champagne toast, or entry only.
  • Check the dress code and minimum age (most clubs are 21+).
  • Look for the live listings on our events pages and concerts calendar.

Getting around on New Year's Eve

Public transit and staying close to the action beat driving on New Year's Eve. Expect road closures around Bayfront Park and along Ocean Drive, full garages, and long rideshare waits with surge pricing after midnight.

Miami Beach charged a $20 flat fee at four South Beach garages over the 2025-26 holidays. Confirm 2026 arrangements with the city and Miami-Dade transit in late December.

Safety tips

Both free events draw very large crowds, so agree a meeting point in case phones stop working, keep valuables in a front pocket, and drink water. Leave glass at home, especially on the beach. Police presence is heavy, and authorities warn every year against firing guns into the air, which is illegal and dangerous.

Hotel tips for New Year's Eve

Hotels in South Beach and downtown fill early for December 31, and many require three or more nights. Stay within walking distance of where you will spend midnight: South Beach for the beach fireworks, or downtown and Brickell for Bayfront Park. Browse our South Beach hotels or the full Miami hotels list, and read the cancellation terms closely, as holiday rates are often non-refundable.
