An airboat ride is the classic way to experience the Everglades' "river of grass". Airboats are run by operators along Tamiami Trail on the edge of Everglades National Park, about an hour west of Miami, and many tours combine the ride with a wildlife or alligator presentation.
What to expect
- A fast, noisy ride across open sawgrass marsh; ear protection is usually provided.
- Chances to see alligators, turtles and wading birds such as herons and egrets.
- On many tours, an alligator show or short nature walk.
- Options with or without transport from Miami hotels.
Good to know
